It's well known that alpha-fashionista Victoria Beckham detests fur because of the suffering that the fur industry inflicts on animals. So it was a bit surprising when news leaked out that the fomer "Posh Spice" would be using crocodile and lizard skins in her new line of accessories. After all, the exotic-skins trade is every bit as cruel as the fur business. Our buds at PETA UK have sent Victoria a letter asking her to watch our video on the exotic-skins industry. Narrated by Joaquin Phoenix, the video details how lizards killed for their skins are commonly nailed to trees and skinned alive and how farmed alligators are usually beaten with hammers and butchered. We hope that once she sees the cruelty inherent in the exotic-skins industry, Victoria will follow in the pleather-clad footsteps of her husband, David, who famously dropped kangaroo-skin soccer shoes after learning about the cruelty of the kangaroo-leather trade.
Know someone else who should know that a killer look shouldn't involve actual killing? Keep some of our "Fashion Forward" leaflets on hand to get the message across.
