Gilbert Arenas Warms Up D.C.'s Homeless

Three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas is proof that one man can double-team fur industry cruelty. First, he bared it all in his "Ink, Not Mink" ad, and today he hosted PETA's fur-coat giveaway in Washington, D.C., where donated coats were handed out to the homeless:

Only those who can't afford to buy coats to keep them warm have any excuse to wear fur. Do you have any skins that you'd like to shed from your wardrobe? Donate them to PETA, and your old fashion faux pas could help a person in need or become bedding for an orphaned animal.

I really like this.. i was wondering why this hasnt happened before! If fur coats are seen as "something that homeless people wear" no one is going to want to buywear one... i think this is great for homeless people who actually NEED it and bad for the fur industry!! which is GREAT! awesome! keep up the great work peta!

Of course we can't waste the coats... but what message is it giving to those who see the fur coats around... Most people who see something then want it. Im in two minds so far.

Len I'm sure there are plenty of groups out there that focus on abortion if that is your cause. PETA's focus is on the billions of nonhuman animals who suffer and die for usif that bothers you there are many things you can do to help but if all you care about is abortion you'll want to take that discussion elsewhere since we are all here to discuss animals and PETA has no official position on issues like abortion.

I see so many fur coats in second hand shops. And still they are not selling. It's clear that these coats are not in style and it's great that PETA is giving them away to the homeless.

i dont know..it is still sick to see someone wearing fur...but then again we cant waist the coat..some people are cold and dont have anythinghelp the world!

My first reaction is 'NO!". Upon reflection this is appreciated on many levels... The nail has been hit on the head in terms of the reasoning behind such an action. The animals who's hides were taken are actually serving a purpose to help the needy rather than embellish the wealthy and their egos. It does make one wonder if it is sending the "right" message. A change in perspective for the right reasons makes sense.

It is commendable that you have such concern for innocent animals. I wonder do you have the same zeal to protect the thousands of innocent who are aborted every year. If you did i would join with you in that fight.
