As one of his first orders of business, President Barack Obama has suspended a plan to remove several gray wolf populations from the Endangered Species List. Originally, the Interior Department wanted to remove the wolves from the list, thereby exposing them to harm and slaughter.
By taking this action, President Obama has saved some lives. It's estimated that as many as two-thirds of the gray wolf population would have been affected by the plan—meaning that 1,000 out of almost 1,500 wolves would have been in deep trouble.
Bravo, Mr. President!

Re: Myles. We do not have the responsibility nor the right to "control" another species' population.
Hunters often argue that they are “managing” wildlife, saving animals from death by starvation and disease. While starvation and disease are unfortunate, they are also nature’s way of ensuring that strong animals survive, thus increasing their species’ chances of survival. Natural predators help keep prey species strong by killing only sick and weak individuals. Hunters, on the other hand, kill whichever animals they come across—often large, healthy animals who are needed to keep populations strong. Moreover, hunting creates conditions that favor accelerated reproduction. The abrupt population decline that it causes leads to less competition for food among survivors, and ultimately, a higher birth rate, thus leading once more to the very problems that hunters claim to solve. i dont like that..ya he saved wolves..but wolves eat deer and elk from the butt up and usually they die from loss of blood or pain..wolves should be controlled...we need them to keep elk and other animals from over populating, but wolves kill just to kill..in minnesota they killed 27 deer in one week, they only ate 5...right now there are too many wolves..ever noticed in the last year since they introduced wolves into yellowstone that you hardly ever see elk anymore? they arent just nocturnal...thats part of it but its mainly because of the wolves...they kill peoples dogs and usually just bite their tendons on their back legs so they cant walk, and then if they even eat it it isnt dead until they eat half of it..arent they cute? i think that obama just had peer pressure...and if he really thinks we should have more wolves than elk or deer in some areas, he doesnt know anything..sarah palin went crazy about it, but i think that wolves should be regulated, not wiped out..we just need less of them
This is great, don't get me wrong, but was I the only person who read about the president calling the Eagles recently and congratulating them on signing Michael Vick, a convicted animal (dog) abuser? I am curious to know what PETA thinks about that and why they didn't say or mention anything about it. If they did, I must've missed it. Obama should be praised for being consistent, he obviously isn't.
