I Am an Animal's on HBO Again

For you lucky folks who have HBO, this is just an FYI. For everyone else, just consider it another sadistic attempt to kick you while you’re down. If you haven’t seen I Am an Animal (the HBO documentary about PETA) yet—or if you want to check it out for a second time—it’s going to be on HBO On Demand until May 25. It’s really a fascinating outsider’s perspective on the inner workings of the organization and why we do what we do for animals. Also available on DVD, btw, so don’t despair if you only have basic cable.

Jennifer we must have watched it about the same time. I couldn't sleep one night was mad at my husband so I was flipping through the channels when I came across it. I didn't intend to watch it. To be honest I have always felt PETA and Ingrid were too extreme and I have been involved in animal rights for years. But something in the documentary grabbed me and would not let me turn the channel. I couldn't turn away from those images any more. I had to face the ugly reality and then face myself in the mirror. I judged myself a coward and a hypocrite two of the worst things I could accuse myself of. Watching this video changed my life. I became a vegetarian from that moment on. Ingrid is awesome. She is who I want to BE when I grow up! at 49 better late than never!

I've gotta get an upgrade on my computer! I can only get about 60 seconds of the video. But in that time I got a glimpse of Ingrid. I'm genuinely amazed at this softspoken woman who has revolutionized the way animals are seen and treated. Her name will stand out among history's heroes and live on in the hearts of generations of animals.

Beautiful post Jennifer. You can tell you spoke straight from the heart. Even a tough guy like Clint Eastwood from way back refused to appear in a movie where an animal might get hurt physically or mentally. You're in good company!

I've been working on becoming Vegan...maybe this movie will do for me what it did for guerline Blockbuster here I come... Weeee!!!

I became a vegetarian on December 28 2007 after watching "I Am Animal." My husband saw me watching the movie and knew that I wouldn't be able to handle it I've always been labeled "oversensitive" and "overdramatic" and "neuroitc". Well watching it was the most important thing I've ever done in my life. I was so upset I could barely walk the undercover investigation at the turkey plant did it. Once I was able to pick myself up I declared as loudly as I could that I would never ever eat another animal. Then I started doing research and reading a lot of information on peta.org and I quickly learned that I'm not oversensitive or overdramatic and that there are almost 2 million other people who feel exactly the same way I have for my whole life. It was okay that I cried when Bambi's mother was shot. It was okay that I couldn't watch Dumbo because they took him from his mother. It was ok that I got nervous going to the circus because I felt like the elephants didnt' belong there. It's hard to believe the one little documentary could have started me on a path to stand up for myself and what I believe in and more importantly that leading a compasionate life doesn't make me neurotic. Thank you so much Ingrid Newkirk! BTW my husband is now a vegetarian also!

Great film! Ingrid Newkirk is such an inspiration. Its her dedication and hard work that gives me the courage and drive to speak up for animals whenever I'm capable to. Most importingly though the main reason Im pleased that this will be shown to America is because it shows images of slaughterhouses fur farms and testing labs that will hopefully open people's eyes to animal exploitation. America will be given the opportunity to see what exactly goes on behind locked doors.
