President to 'Pardon' Innocent Birds; Sentence Them to Death

On Wednesday of this week, President Bush will be performing one of the more morbid rituals this country celebrates—the annual “Turkey Pardon” ceremony in the Rose Garden, in which he will be magnanimously sparing the lives of two turkeys (out of a field of 12 animals whose lives were put up for a vote this month) and then sending the birds to Disneyland, where they will probably die within a year due to inadequate care. I suppose the turkeys in question will be more enthused about this turn of events than they would be about the alternative, but I have to say I can think of a number of ways that I’d rather spend my Thanksgiving than being manhandled by politicians and then sent to Disneyland to die...

As we normally do at this time of year, we sent a letter to the President this morning asking him to take steps to ensure that the "pardoned" birds receive the care they will need to live out the year. The only right way to do a "Turkey Pardon" is not to eat them at all!!! I must add that the turkey in I am an animal documentary that got away and was rescued and then sent to a sanctuary touched me deeply. I dont know after looking in that turkeys eyes anyone could ever eat one again. The are sweet and innocent creatures that like all animals I believe have souls feel pain and do not want to die for our consumption. There once was a time in my life I would have never imagined a Thanksgiving without a turkey for dinner..but now I can not imagine a Thanksgiving eating something that suffered so dearly just for me to follow a tradition. I am most thankful this year for all of the people that have opened their eyes this year by stopping to contributing to the suffering of animals by consuming meat products. I am also thankful for all of the people that are doing everything possible to help animals in need. No matter how little or much you do to make an animals life better! I feel blessed to live in a world that is now aware of the suffering of animals and where people are making a difference everywhere. I also greatly appreciate Peta for they are the organization that paved the road for all animal rights groups around the world without them animals would still be viewed as just objects for us to own and abuse. I look forward to the day that all turkey's and other animals are pardoned simply by the fact that people refuse to eat them!

Hey lol it's exactly this 'they are just turkeys' mentality which is leading this planet stright away into hell! read the works of Nobel Prize Winner Albert Schweitzer the Doctor of Lambarene! He is talking exactly about this problem 'they are just moskitos' and can be exterminated 'they are just rats' and can be exterminated 'they are just snakes' and can be exterminated they are just unwanted humans' and can be exterminated! He writes in this case i prefer to close my window and breath a sticky air in order to avoid the death of one moskito or moth or fly approaching my lamp! etc. but uneducated illiterate people are fucking up here always with the same argumentations without using their godgiven brains or making a small step towards education of soul heart and mind just guided by their paranoia and you know where is the tip of the iceberg exactly there where we see the abuse of the human species like for example now in saudi arabia where the whole world is horrified in looking at a human being abused terrorized beaten and thrown away because she is 'just a woman'! if you don't get it once and for always that all life is connected and related and linked with each other that we are all one creation taking breath from the one who gave it to us for free the creator and that everything is HIS PERSONAL PROPERTY and that this CREATOR created time and that we have no power over it but just the creator and that this creator is free to go back and forth within his own created time and give and take and wake up whatever this creator likes at any time this creator likes the human being shall never overcome never! animalfriend FREE BURMA AND THE ANIMALS!!!!!!!

It's an interesting ritual at least two turkeys survive the holidays! besides the ones we won't eat.

The animals do not die of boredom. They die because of all of the chemicals and crap that gets pumped into their bodies making them unnaturally huge and misproportioned. Their lil systems cannot sustain the amount of weight that they are carrying around and they die.

The only reason he pardoned the poor turkey is because oter presidents havecome on now the guy use to own a cattle ranch someone told me he even loved watching them being castrated. the guy is sick

I know we've got to keep trying but this guy cares nothing for people let alone animals. He has sent thousands of young men and women to Iraq to die in vain. I hate to say that there will be no reponse to this letter. Our only option is to GET OUT and VOTE. We've got to get rid of politicians with no consciences and no cares for anything except money. Bush is morally bankrupt.
