Easy Fall Outreach Ideas

Whether you are going back to school, have kids who are going back to school, or are just taking advantage of the back-to-school shopping sales, autumn can be a busy time for most people. You might have a lot on your plate, but don't forget that the animals who end up in slaughterhouses, on fur farms, or on display in circuses and zoos need you to fit them into your busy schedule. Here are some things that you can do to help animals this fall.

Put Your Passion Into Projects

Have some extra time this fall? Work with your local school district to add more cruelty-free options throughout the year. Start a local campaign to have all the schools in your district include a vegan choice on each daily menu. Find out about the schools in your area that include animal dissection in their science programs, and start a campaign pushing for an alternative for students who do not want to participate. Or give your school board a lesson in circus cruelty—contact PETA for a step-by-step guide that will assist you in asking your school board to cut cruel animal acts from its curriculum.

Demonstrate Your Compassion

Show off your to-die-for fashions and accessories that animals didn't have to die for! Not only is animal-friendly clothing more hip and humane than clothing made with fur, wool, and leather, it also shows your friends and family members that saving animals is as simple as choosing luxurious synthetic alternatives. By sporting one of PETA's "No Fur" buttons, the message will come through loud and clear.

Want to do more for animals on fur farms? Make a positive impact by leafleting at local festivals, fairs, and concerts! You'll be surprised how many people you can reach by leafleting for just one hour. If there's an event coming to your area that you would like to leaflet at, just contact PETA's activist liaisons and let us know the details of the event and your mailing address, and we'll send you a stack of leaflets.

Write Animal Wrongs

Reach millions of people by writing letters to the editor to your local newspapers about important fall animal issues. Many county fairs with petting zoos take place in the fall, and animals who are hauled around on the fair circuit endure the rigors and stress of transport in dark, cramped, and stuffy trucks and trailers. Take this opportunity to let your community know about the dangers to humans and animals involved in petting zoos.
