URGENT: Dogs and Pigs in Texas Need Your HelpResidents of Cherokee County, Texas, have been contacting PETA in despair again. The complainants report that four to six pit bulls allegedly go without any shelter, food, or water at the residence of Casey and Melissa Wood of County Road 2501 in the city of Alto. Furthermore, callers tell us that several times each fall, the Woods allegedly bring pigs onto this property and corral them for the dogs to attack and kill. Click here for more information about this cruel practice, which is banned in Texas. Animal fighting—as well as the failure to meet the duties of dog ownership—are expressly outlawed in Texas. Upon conviction, violators face imprisonment and stiff fines. PETA has asked the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office to order the Woods to provide their dogs with shelter, a readily available supply of water, and enough food to maintain a healthy weight. PETA has also asked that, if it is deemed appropriate, criminal charges be considered and all animals be confiscated from the property. The Sheriff’s Office has refused to respond to our concerns. Your voice is needed! Please ask Sheriff James Cambell to conduct an immediate and thorough inspection of this property and all animals who live there, to file appropriate charges, and to look into allegations of animal fighting or animal baiting involving pit bulls and pigs on this property. Please send polite comments to: Sheriff James Cambell The Honorable Craig Caldwell, County Attorney The Honorable Chris Davis, County Judge Kevin Pierce, Precinct 2 Commissioner PW1090 |
