PetSmart is currently offering customers "$10 off" any reptile in the store if they present their ticket stubs from the movie Rango, a film primarily marketed to children. An estimated 90 percent of all wild-caught reptiles are dead within the first year of captivity. Often kept in small tanks and in unsuitable temperatures, fed improper diets, injured when handled roughly or dropped, and forgotten when the novelty wears off, reptiles are among the most unfortunate animals in the pet trade. It might be easy for moviegoers to impulsively purchase these animals as "pets," but very few have the knowledge (or equipment) required to meet their specialized needs or the inclination to commit to many years of care. Please contact PetSmart and politely urge the company to end the Rango reptile promotion! Please call 800-738-1385 (press 2, then select option 1) and email them here.
