Five Gifts That You Can Give to Animals This Holiday

The holidays can be anything but joyous for animals used to make leather jackets, fur-trimmed coats, or wool sweaters. Whether the clothes come from Chinese fur farms, Indian slaughterhouses, or the Australian Outback, millions of animals suffer and die every day in the name of fashion.

You can help animals this holiday season by writing to these four companies and the Australian government to encourage an end to the killing of animals for the fashion industry. Take action NOW!

Donna Karan

Despite knowing about the suffering that goes into every fur-trimmed coat, hat, and bag, Donna Karan has made the cruel decision to use the skins of dead rabbits in her clothing lines. Speak out by writing to Donna Karan International and urging the company to dump fur.

Jimmy Choo

Snakes, crocodiles, alligators, and other reptiles are bludgeoned to death and skinned alive for fashion. Although many people might not be as familiar with reptiles as they are with companion animals, reptiles suffer every bit as much when they are beaten, abused, and killed. Take action now by urging Jimmy Choo to exclude exotic skins from its collections.

BCBG

Fashion brand BCBG has gone back on its pledge to be fur-free, despite knowing that animals suffer in cramped, filthy cages before they are bludgeoned, gassed, or electrocuted for the fur trade. Take action now by urging BCBG to ditch fur from its collections permanently.

 Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard

Tens of millions of gentle lambs in Australia are mutilated every year with instruments that resemble gardening shears in a painful procedure called “mulesing,” which is a crude and cruel attempt to reduce the risk of a maggot infestation known as “flystrike.” Take a moment to urge Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard to end mulesing mutilations.

DSW, Inc.

DSW, Inc., refuses to stop selling shoes made with animal fur, despite knowing that millions of animals are cruelly trapped, farmed, and killed for their fur every year. Take a stand by writing to DSW and demanding that it dump fur.

Be sure to share this with your friends and family on Facebook and Twitter, and encourage them to give these five gifts for animals used in the fashion industry.
