Wildlife Specialist
Position Objective:
To investigate and intervene in cases involving cruelty to wildlife, and to develop and implement comprehensive strategies to alleviate the suffering of and/or obtain justice for wildlife through campaigns, casework, outreach programs, and the development of literature

Reports to:
Wildlife Biologist and Director of the Domestic Animal and Wildlife Rescue & Information Department
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct research and write materials to advance PETA's wildlife protection campaign outreach efforts
- Review HelpingWildlife.com and wildlife-related Web materials at least twice each month to update, add, and remove information as needed
- Intervene to prevent municipalities, private-property owners, communities, and businesses from using cruel and/or lethal methods to resolve conflicts with wildlife by developing and implementing comprehensive strategies
- Persuade municipalities, communities, and private-property owners to implement humane wildlife-control methods
- Provide intervention and assistance in a wide variety of wildlife abuse situations using discretion and independent judgment
- Investigate and intervene in cruelty cases involving neglected and/or abused wildlife, including working to ensure that crimes committed against wildlife are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law
- Guide callers regarding peaceful cohabitation with wildlife
- Represent PETA's stance on wildlife-related issues to the media and the general public
- Perform any other duties assigned by the wildlife biologist and the director
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
Qualifications:
- Work experience in a wildlife field and/or a degree in a related field required
- Strong public speaking skills required
- Strong interest in wildlife casework-related mediation or intervention required
- Previous casework-related mediation or intervention experience preferred
- Ability to make independent decisions in crisis situations
- Persuasive writing and research experience preferred
- Ability to handle calls in a professional and confidential manner
- Good proofreading and organizational skills
- Willingness to handle and transport wild animals
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have a valid driver's license with three years' clean driving record
- Ability to be on 24-hour emergency call
- Demonstrated commitment to the objectives of the organization
