Vanguard Society Liaison

Position Objective:

To cultivate and acknowledge Vanguard Society donors

Term of Employment:

Full-time

Reports to:

Major Gifts Coordinator

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain a clear understanding of—and the ability to articulate—the objectives of the organization as well as details about specific PETA programs
  • Manage contact with specific groups of donors, and act as a professional contact for them
  • Cultivate relationships with targeted donors
  • Document pertinent information for the purpose of enhancing and developing donor profiles for the major gifts database
  • Make recommendations to the director of major gifts and major gifts officers on donors who have greater potential to give
  • Prepare written and oral reports, as requested by the major gifts coordinator/manager
  • Stay up to date on current fundraising techniques and methods used in the nonprofit sector, and attend professional training seminars, as requested
  • Assist with hosting visiting Vanguard Society members
  • Stay up to date on animal rights issues in general
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
  • Serve as a liaison at fundraising events and other specific projects, as necessary, ensuring that volunteers and staff members understand responsibilities and are on schedule
  • Perform other duties, as requested by the major gifts manager

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional oral persuasive and explanatory communication skills
  • At least one year of previous association with PETA as an activist, a member, or a staff member or association with another animal rights group
  • Ability to prepare professional business communications
  • Ability to maintain professional working relationships with members and supporters
  • Must be at least 21 years of age, with a valid driver's license and three years' clean driving record
  • Ability to represent PETA's philosophy and professionally advocate PETA's position on issues
  • Ability to work independently and use discretion in confidential matters relating to donors
  • Ability to manage projects and work together with multiple departments
  • Ability to respond quickly to donor needs
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
