Research Associate

Position Objective:

To provide research support for a wide range of projects involving animal-testing issues

Term of Employment:

Full-time

Reports to:

Director of the Regulatory Testing Division, Policy Department

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Research and interpret a variety of animal protection issues to further PETA’s cause, primarily as it relates to animal testing required by regulatory agencies both in the U.S. and abroad
  • Obtain the necessary data for factsheets, white papers, reports, and other correspondence
  • Attend scientific conferences and communicate with scientists regarding issues relating to casework
  • Work with government agencies on toxicity testing issues
  • Develop expertise in non-animal test methods
  • Answer correspondence regarding animal-testing issues
  • Analyze technical papers and translate scientific terminology into lay terms for use in research projects
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Perform other assigned duties

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a related field
  • Proven exceptional writing and research skills
  • Proven familiarity with animal testing issues and the ability to apply medical/scientific terminology
  • Proven ability to make sound, independent judgments
  • Ability to conduct in-depth research and handle many issues simultaneously
  • Ability to handle calls in a professional and confidential manner
  • Supportive position vis-à-vis PETA’s philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA’s positions
  • Ability and willingness to travel when needed
  • Good organizational skills
