Staff Writer/Researcher (PETA Asia-Pacific)

Position Objectives:

To write and/or rewrite articles, letters, news releases, and other documents about animal rights for both in-house and external publications; to edit staff members' work, as requested by the manager; and to complete project requests and assist with mail responses. This position is based in Manila, but we welcome applications from writers who would like to work remotely from home.

Term of Employment:

Full-time

Reports to:

Director of PETA Asia-Pacific

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Create content that is uniquely designed for specific projects and campaigns
  • Edit staff members' work and writing, as required
  • Write articles and copy for in-house publications
  • Write letters to the editor, op-ed pieces, and columns about animal rights issues, and pitch them, as needed
  • Provide input in helping to create unique projects, campaigns, and slogans
  • Answer activist and member correspondence
  • Prepare news releases, when required
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Previous exceptional writing experience (e.g., for newspapers, magazines, other publications)
  • Ability to work on own initiative and under pressure
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner
  • Ability to take initiative and follow through
  • Ability to make sound judgments and work independently
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Diplomacy, friendliness, and patience
  • Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and campaigns
  • Ability to professionally advocate PETA Asia-Pacific's positions on issues
  • Excellent computer skills
