Liberation Project Coordinator

Position Objective:

To use peta2's Liberation Project to educate high school and college students about the philosophy and principles of animal rights as well as what they can do to stop animal suffering in their own lives

Term of Employment:

Full-time

Reports to:

Assistant Director of Youth Outreach & Campaigns

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Travel with and manage the "Liberation" display
  • Work with college activists to coordinate pre-display "buzz" campaigns to generate interest in the "Liberation" project
  • Work with college activists to coordinate post-display awareness campaigns designed to capitalize on student interest in the "Liberation" project
  • Contact college activists to find groups that are willing to host peta2's "Liberation" display
  • Coordinate a travel schedule for the "Liberation" display each semester
  • Organize and conduct speaking engagements on college campuses
  • Travel extensively to perform duties
  • Represent peta2 to the media and the general public
  • Attend Youth Outreach & Campaigns Department meetings, as needed
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field
  • Previous activist experience
  • Thorough knowledge of youth culture
  • Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and philosophy
  • Thorough knowledge of current Internet trends (e.g., MySpace, YouTube)
  • Proven experience with planning successful events
  • Must have a valid driver's license with three years' clean driving record
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Willingness to travel extensively
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and move equipment, with the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to make sound, independent judgments and decisions
  • Ability to communicate well with a variety of people
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organization
