Position Objective:
To assist with handling casework in the office and in the field and to function as CAP’s primary support person at PETA’s headquarters

Reports to:
Director of Domestic Animal and Wildlife Rescue & Information Department (DAWR&I)
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Retrieve, log, and respond to incoming requests for local (Virginia) CAP assistance
- Dispatch field staff members and volunteers or respond firsthand to field emergencies
- Assign non-emergency local cases to field staff members and read the respondents’ reports on a daily basis (within 24 hours when on duty)
- Perform euthanasia, emergency first-aid procedures, and field work
- File complaints with animal control agencies for cases requiring legal intervention, and follow up to ensure that action is taken
- Coordinate and supervise all intern and volunteer projects for the division
- Perform fieldwork in North Carolina at least once a month, functioning as the lead technician
- Help coordinate and participate in the care of animals in PETA’s custody
- Coordinate all spay appointments for CAP’s North Carolina clients through local veterinarians and spay appointments for local clients through the SNIP (Spay and Neuter Immediately, Please) manager
- Participate in CAP emergency-pager rotation and respond to urgent calls
- Submit approved doghouse requests to the Operations for building and delivery
- Submit weekly CAP van mileage figures to Operations or another designated staff member
- Coordinate CAP’s monthly schedule
- Oversee the maintenance and stocking of CAP’s office supplies and literature, exam room, and vans
- Delegate, through the director of DAWR&I, any and all of the above duties to members of the CAP staff during field work, time off, and travel
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- Degree or experience in related field
- Excellent interpersonal skills and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to deal professionally with a wide variety of people
- Certification in animal euthanasia and drug use (training will be provided by PETA)
- Good problem-solving and crisis-management skills
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. without assistance
- Ability to be on 24-hour emergency call
- Ability to make sound, independent decisions in a crisis situation
- Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks
- Attention to detail
- Commitment to the objectives of the organization
