A message from Ingrid Newkirk
Dear Friends,

Use our materials to win animals some new friends.
Big-time “ideas person” Jayn Meinhart of Cincinnati, Ohio, often sends us her “tips for success.” Jayn’s latest: “Always put animal rights bumper stickers on your luggage.”

A sticker certainly gets people thinking and makes the luggage a cinch to spot on the airport carousel, and no one wants to steal an easily identifiable bag.

I once was stuck in a terribly long line at customs on my way back into the U.S.

A customs agent sternly ordered me to follow him. As we reached the exit, he said, “I saw the ‘Meat Is Murder’ sticker on your case. I love animals. I didn’t want you to have to wait. Go on through.”

I leave copies of Animal Times in plane seatbacks and on tables in hotel sitting areas.

A friend of mine always writes, “Blessed are the animals. Go vegan,” in the front of the Bible in hotel nightstand drawers.

One member joined PETA because she read a bumper sticker on the back of a public bathroom door! Apparently, cleaning crews don’t look there, but everyone else does! “PETA people” even put fliers in the envelope when they pay bills and stick them inside magazines at the store. People tell us they have found pamphlets in lunchrooms and doctor’s offices, on bulletin boards and on benches while waiting for a bus, in the magazine rack at the gym, and even in the cosmetics aisle of their supermarket.

When you “educate to liberate,” you can safely bet that you will reach some people, and they will reach some more people, and on it goes.

So, please, use our materials to win animals some new friends. As you read this issue, you’ll see that the animals need as many friends as they can get. And to continue helping animals after you’re gone, please read Bea Arthur’s message .

Best of luck to you in your activism,

Ingrid
