ANIMAL TIMESĘ READERS ARE HELPING THE ANIMALS

When Brook and Amy Dubman, owners of Carol House Furniture stores in St. Louis, Missouri, learned how animals suffer in the leather industry, they went leather–free. “We made our decision for ethical reasons,” says Brook, “but it makes good business sense, too. Today’s luxurious synthetics have the feel and durability that consumers demand without costing a cow an arm and a leg.”

At the Cathedral of St. Paul in Minnesota, Lori Peterson, Julie Eyrich and other activists passed out 800 leaflets about Christianity and vegetarianism, and 95 percent of the churchgoers took the literature. The activists plan to leaflet every Sunday until they reach all area churches. Says Julie, “We need to change the mindset of the typical Christian, who thinks God created animals for our use. … We need to have activists of all religions out leafleting.”
