It’s no Hollywood secret—millions of vegetarians who embrace healthy, animal-free fare turn heads with their “get up and go.” By choosing slimming soy over fatty fillets, vegetarians glow with smooth skin and healthy smiles.

We recently asked visitors to PETA.org to cast their votes for the “Sexiest Vegetarian Alive”—and our list of candidates reads like a Who’s Who? of Hollywood hotties, including David Duchovny, Jude Law, Pamela Anderson and Joaquin Phoenix. Thousands of fans visited our site and voted for their favorites.

NBA star Anthony Peeler was voted most appealing by many—and a bevy of admirers declared “Yes, Sir!” by voting for Britain’s Ian McKellen. “Gorgeous!”—so said swarms of fans of American Beauty’s Thora Birch. Angela Bassett thrilled the throngs, who declared that she definitely has her groove back (not that she ever lost it!). The opposite sex went gaga for the Gilmore Girls’ guy, Milo Ventimiglia, and many eyed Baywatch babe Traci Bingham as the “Sexiest Vegetarian Alive.”

The votes were varied, but everyone agreed on one important point—cruelty to billions of animals raised and killed for chicken nuggets and pork chops is a huge turnoff.

And the Winners Are...

Tobey Maguire Natalie Portman

The red-hot star of Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire, and Star Wars siren Natalie Portman racked up the most votes. Of course, all of these famous vegetarian vixens and “beef”cakes are winners—for choosing kindness over killing.

Rescued! - Quail and Friends Rescued From “Bone Yard”

The first thing they noticed was the smell. While delivering doghouses to needy dogs in rural North Carolina, PETA staffers stumbled upon a hellhole. The house was surrounded by piles of rotting animal parts crawling with maggots, which had been thrown to five chained dogs for food. A quail was locked inside a dilapidated shack on the property. After convincing the owner to relinquish her, they took the tiny frightened quail to a wildlife rehabilitator, where she now lives in a bright, spacious aviary with a new quail friend.
