Want to help animals but cant figure out how to cram activism into your busy schedule? Well, any Jane- or Joe-on-the-Go can find ways to make a difference in just minutes a day.
All you have to do is keep your eyes open as you go about your daily life and decide to speak up. Does the local supermarket sell live lobsters? Does your childs teacher keep animals in the classroom or require students to dissect? Does your hairstylist use products that were tested on animals? Is your neighbors dog always tied outdoors, left alone throughout the day?
Whatever the situation or type of cruelty involved, never assume that someone else will take care of it. Dont worry that you wont know exactly what will workjust try! Take a steptalk, educate, object, write, put up a poster, hand out a leaflet, raise a stink, hold your ground, suggest an alternative. Youll get resultswe promise!
eating out
Always ask restaurant managers to start offering veggie burgers or other veg-friendly food. If youre really on the go, just leave behind PETAs Dear Restaurant Manager cards, which urge restaurants to add more veg options. Customer demand gets results!
Ask local restaurants to display PETAs Veg Friendly stickers on their windows and doors.
at work or school
Refuse to participate in anything that causes animals pain, fear or frustration; there are always alternatives. (We can help.)
Ask your school or office cafeteria manager to contact the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), P.O. Box 6322, Washington, DC 20016, for vegan recipes that are specially formulated for institutions. UK members, contact the PETA office for PCRM recipes.
shopping
Write or call companies to let them know you wont be purchasing their products until they declare a permanent ban on animal testing. (Contact us for a free list of company addresses and phone numbers.)
cleaning house
Doing spring cleaning? Gather up old clothes, toys and unused furniture and hold a yard sale for the animals! Donate the profits to a local animal shelter or wildlife rehabilitator.
