We have good reason to feel cheered this holiday season, as more and more people celebrate with vegetarian meals. Please show those who dont the articles about turkeys in this issueour wonderful story of Turkey Boys introduction and subsequent devotion to Turkey Girl and our undercover investigators heartbreaking account of unspeakable cruelty on a turkey farm.
Now is the time for students to get free ammunition against dissection from PETA, including Classroom Cut-Ups, the video of PETAs undercover investigation of dissection animal supply houses that has caused many biology teachers and students to think twice before they slice.
With colder weather upon us, its important to look out for companion animal neglect. Last years winter here in Virginia wasnt particularly harsh, but still a stray kitten froze to death in a warehouse, a dog whose owner could not be convinced to bring her inside died of exposure, and an elderly Doberman suffering from a frozen jaw and malnutrition narrowly escaped death when a neighbor called animal control. Be sure to alert authorities whenever you witness abuse or neglect. If you dont get results, contact PETA.
Its so important to share the information in this issue and contact the animal abusers whose names and addresses are given. Those of you with computers can also help immensely by regularly visiting our constantly updated Web site: www.peta-online.org.
The PETA staff and I send you our warmest wishes for happy and rewarding holidays.
For the animals,

Ingrid Newkirk
