In this issue, we bring you a story that has already turned many people vegetarian after they saw videotaped footage from the case air on the TV news. Our exposé of Belcross Farms, a pig farm in North Carolina, may make you want to turn the page, but please read it. The article is heartbreaking, but it describes reality for pigs at Belcross and in thousands of hog farms all over the world. As a consumer, you need to know what goes into those neatly wrapped packages of bacon so you can decide if a bacon breakfast is worth the misery that created it. As an activist, you need to know the routine abuse that occurs on factory farms so you’re better able to educate others about it.

On a brighter note: In our last issue, we told you about a shabby roadside zoo called Noell’s Chimp Farm that featured a miserable menagerie, including monkeys, chimpanzees, orangutans, gorillas and a “dancing” bear. I’m glad to report that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has permanently revoked the Chimp Farm’s license. The zoo is now closed for business, and we’re working with its owners to find permanent homes for the animals.

Every action you take, every letter you write, every time you speak up for animals, it gives them another chance to live in peace. Please never miss an opportunity to make a difference.

Thank you for all you do.
