Ask MeganDo you know of any conservative political groups that focus on animal rights? There’s a role for everyone within the animal rights movement. Most—if not all—national animal rights groups (including PETA) are nonpartisan and welcome members and activists of all political stripes.!While there may not be a specific group for you to join, you can play a valuable role by bringing the animal rights message to other conservatives. I’ve found that I often win conservatives over to animal rights simply by showing them through my own example that the philosophy of animal rights does not conflict with conservative ideology. Sometimes, a short conversation with a conservative animal rights activist is all it takes to shatter someone’s preconceived notion that animal rights is an exclusively liberal cause. Be sure to share Matthew Scully’s book, Dominion, with conservative friends and family members too! You’re setting a great example, so don’t hesitate to speak openly about your beliefs. If you are active in local political circles, take vegetarian food to events to share with others, hand out PETA’s lists of companies that do and that don’t test on animals, and set a compassionate example for everyone you meet. It definitely pays off! |
